Stirewalt helps Diamonds shutout Vallejo for second straight night

Diamonds pitching held the league leading Vallejo Admirals to 18 scoreless innings while sweeping the two-game series. After Brett Solano lead a 1-0 victory on Tuesday with shutout pitching, Tyler Stirewalt (2-0) went 7 2/3 innings giving up no runs and striking out five on Wednesday. Cain Spangler finished the game earning his second save.

Yuki Yasuda was the offensive star of the night, going 3-for-4 scoring the first two runs of the night. Morgan Blatnik was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI’s.

Frank Valentino (1-2) pitched well but took the loss for Vallejo which has lost two in a row for the first time this season.

Pittsburg first baseman Jordan Van Atta was 1-for-3 with an RBI before injuring himself diving back into first base. He was taken to a hospital for review.

The Diamonds will take on San Rafael for the first time this season as the Pacifics come to town for two games. The first game will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at Winter Chevrolet Stadium in City Park in Pittsburg.
