MacDonald is superb in Diamonds win

Corey MacDonald pitched a strong seven innings while the Diamonds offense got some timely hits to take a win over San Rafael 5-2. Combined with Sonoma’s loss to Vallejo, the win put the Diamonds three games behind the Stompers and one game behind the Admirals with 20 to play.

Pittsburg got 12 hits lead by Wes Wallace (3 doubles, 2 runs batted in), Yiecok Calderon (2 for 3, 2 RBI’s) and Jose Garcia (2 for 4).

MacDonald (5-4) gave up two runs in seven innings, striking out five to get the win. Jordan Brink pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get his ninth save. The Pacifics’ James McReynolds (2-4) took the loss.

The teams will play game two of their series Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Winter Chevrolet Stadium.
