Diamonds sweep the Pacifics

Diamonds pitcher Travis Blackley finally got a well-deserved win as he pitched Pittsburg to within one game of first place with a 6-4 victory over San Rafael. The win gave the Diamonds a sweep of the Pacifics just as Vallejo was completing a sweep of Sonoma. That means the Admirals and Stompers are tied for first place and Pittsburg is in second one game out.

Gerald Bautista was 2 for 3 with a walk and drove in two runs early to give the Diamonds a lead. Ordomar Valdez was 3 for 4 with a walk and drove in what proved to be the winning run. Wes Wallace provided insurance with an 8th inning home run.

Blackley went eight innings, giving up two runs and striking out nine for his first win. Skylar Shaw-Fuss came into the game in the ninth and put down a San Rafael uprising to earn his first save. Pacifics starter Angel Mejia (1-3) took the loss.

The Diamonds will travel to Sonoma Friday night at 6 p.m. to open a critical three game series with the Stompers.
