Diamonds Go Long, Stirewalt is Stalwart in 6-2 Victory Over Sonoma

Three Diamonds homered as starter Tyler Stirewalt kept Sonoma at bay and Pittsburg got an important victory over the Stompers 6-2.

Stirewalt (6-4) allowed just one run in six innings and got the win. He now leads the Pacific Association in victories with six. Five relievers followed him to the mound but only one more run scored for Sonoma.

A two-run homer by Gerald Bautista and solo shots for Ordomar Valdez and Wes Wallace powered the Diamonds offense.

Stompers starter Taylor Thurber (3-1) gave up four runs and took his first loss to Pittsburg.

The teams will continue their series Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Sonoma.
