Diamonds Can’t Hold Lead, Stompers Avoid Sweep 8-6
Looking to sweep the three-game series and pull within one game of the first place Stompers, Pittsburg had a 6-4 lead into the late innings. But a four-run Stomper seventh inning kept the brooms at bay and sent Sonoma home an 8-6 winner.
Sonoma third baseman Scott David was 3 for 3 with three RBI’s and two runs scored to lead the Stompers. The league’s leading hitter, Diamonds first baseman Vinny Guglietti, broke out of his recent slump, going 3 for 4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Diamonds reliever Angel Lara (2-3) pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up three runs and took the loss. Stompers starter Juan Espinosa (5-2) lasted seven innings giving up six runs, but got the win. The save went to Jacob Cox who pitched a scoreless final inning and a third.
The Diamonds open a three-game series against Vallejo Friday night at 6:30 at Winter Chevrolet Stadium in Pittsburg.
