Diamonds down Pacifics, extend win-streak to three

With the bottom third of the batting order driving in five runs, the Diamonds used a committee of pitchers to hold back San Rafael and win their third in a row 6-4. Their win streak matches Sonoma’s losing streak which stretched to three games today and left the Diamonds just two games out of first place.

Seventh place hitter Javier Marticorena was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Hitting eighth, Jose Garcia was 2 for 4 with a three-run homerun. The number nine hitter, Joseph Randazzo – making his first start at catcher for Pittsburg – went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Brett Solano made his starting debut for the Diamonds giving up three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Joe Mello (1-0) – who along with Angel Lara and Sam Agnew-Weiland allowed no runs – got the victory in relief. Jordan Brink pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 10th save. Nick DeBarr (3-5) took the loss for San Rafael.

Pittsburg will be looking for a sweep in the series Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Winter Chevrolet Stadium.
