Stompers sweep winning finale 9-4

The Stompers took advantage of Pittsburg’s pitching errors and poor fielding in the seventh inning to blow open a 3-1 ball game with six runs. Sonoma eventually won 9-4, sweeping the series against the Diamonds.

Centerfielder Matt Hibbert lead the Sonoma barrage going 5 for 5 with three runs scored. A three-run homerun by Gerald Bautista and a solo shot by centerfielder Wes Wallace were Pittsburg’s only highlights.

Stompers starter Juan Espinosa (6-3) gave up just one run in seven innings pitched. The Diamonds starter Michael Gunn (4-3) struck out nine batters but gave up eight runs in 6 1/3 innings and took the loss.

Pittsburg will open a three-game series against the Pacifics on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in San Rafael.
