McKeon’s Clutch Hit Wasted, Stompers Win in Walk-Off 5-4

McKeon’s Clutch Hit Wasted, Stompers Win in Walk-Off 5-4

Pittsburg catcher Alex McKeon’s two-out, two-strikes, two-RBI single in the top of the tenth looked to give the Diamonds an extra-inning victory in Sonoma. But in the bottom of the tenth, Matt Hibbert drove a 1-2 pitch into the left field grand stand with two runners on to give the Stompers their second walk-off win in a row, 5-4.

The two teams were tied at two after a pitchers duel between the Diamonds’ Travis Blakley and Sonoma’s Tyrelle Harris. Yiecok Calderon homered for Pittsburg and Yuki Yasuda homered for the Stompers.

Joe Lewis (2-1) took the loss. Jacob Cox (4-2) gave up two runs in the tenth but got the win.

The Diamonds will open a three-game series against Vallejo on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Winter Chevrolet Stadium in Pittsburg.
