Diamonds Take Lead Into the Ninth, Lose 6-5
On the verge of collecting their first win of the second half over the defending champions, the Diamonds helped Sonoma score the tying run and then the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to snatch away the victory 6-5.
On the strength of two homeruns by Wes Wallace and another by Vinny Guglietti, Pittsburg took a 5-4 lead in to the bottom of the ninth. Jordan Brink walked the first two batters and gave up a single to Marcus Bradley which drove in Isaac Wenrich to tie the score. With no outs and the infield and outfield pulled in, Brennan Metzger punched a soft infield hit to send Mesa Miyadera to the plate with the winning run.
Brink (1-3) got the loss. D.J. Sharabi (4-2) got the win in relief.
The two teams will finish their three-game series Sunday at 6 p.m. in Sonoma.
