Diamonds offense provides cushion in Pittsburg victory

Pittsburg’s offense provided the cushion as Diamonds starter Tyler Stirewalt did not have his best outing and the men in black beat Vallejo 9-5 to take the series 2-1. Javier Marticorena, Yiecok Calderon and Gerald Bautista each had two RBI’s as the Pittsburg scored nine runs in the first two innings and held on.

Stirewalt (5-3) who came into the game with an earned run average of 2.76, gave up five runs in eight innings on his way to getting the win. Admirals starter Brent Adheen (1-4) could only last into the second inning giving up eight runs and taking the loss.

The Diamonds are 2-1 in the second half and head to Sonoma for a three-game weekend series against the first half champs.
