Diamonds Fall Behind Early, Can’t Get Back in Game, Lose 10-4

Chevy Clarke lead off the game with a homerun and shortstop David Kiriakos continued his torrid hitting as the Vallejo Admirals opened a big lead early and never looked back, beating Pittsburg 10-4. Kiriakos went 10 for 14 in the three-game series including three hits tonight.

B.J. Guinn hit a two-run homerun for the Diamonds who had opportunities but couldn’t get the timely hits to close the gap.

Dennis Neal (2-4) started for Pittsburg but lasted only 1 1/3 innings giving up six runs --four of them earned – and took the loss. Brett Solano made his professional debut pitching 4 2/3 innings for the Diamonds and was charged with three earned runs.

Marquis Hutchison (4-5) pitched into the eighth inning and got the win for Vallejo which won its first series of the season against the Diamonds.

The two teams move to Vallejo tomorrow to begin a three-game set at 6:35 p.m. at Wilson Field.
