Calderon, Guinn Homeruns Are Just Enough in 5-4 Victory
A three-run homerun by B.J. Guinn in the fifth inning and a two-run homerun by Yiecok Calderon in the seventh provided all of the Diamonds’ runs and they were just enough as Pittsburg held back a continually threatening Vallejo to win 5-4.
In the bottom of the ninth the Admirals had runners at second and third with one out but San Agnew-Weiland struck out Graylin Derke and Shawn Payne hit a comebacker to allow the Diamonds to escape with the win. Vallejo left 12 runners on base in the game.
Pittsburg starter Michael Gunn (4-1) gave up one run and struck out eight in six innings pitched to earn the win. Agnew-Weiland got his first save. David Dinelli (1-5) took the loss for the Admirals.
The Diamonds start a three-game series against the league leading Sonoma Stompers on Tuesday in Sonoma.
