Blackley pitches complete game, striking out 11 in Diamonds loss

Vinny Guglietti

Former major leaguer Travis Blackley (0-1) pitched a complete game, struck out 11 and allowed just three earned runs, but two unearned runs were the difference sending Pittsburg to a 5-4 defeat to the start the second half of play in the Pacific Association.

The Vallejo Admirals – who finished last in the first half – are 1-0 after starter Peter Reyes (2-0) gave up three runs in almost six innings of pitching and got the win. Three Admirals relievers pitched into jams and then escaped them. Sammy Gervasio gave up a run in the ninth inning but got his seventh save.

Diamonds right fielder Gerald Bautista got an RBI triple and walked twice in his first game against the team that traded him three weeks ago. The Diamonds left eight runners on base.

Game two of this series that opens the second half will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Vallejo.
