PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg Diamonds took a shot at baseball’s glass ceiling today by naming Sarah Granato assistant general manager.
Granato, 22, has been working with the team in an internship capacity filling roles as diverse as scorekeeper to game day management.
The graduate of Benicia High School competed on a soccer scholarship for Kansas Wesleyan University, graduating this past May with a major in Sports Management and a double minor in Accounting and Business Administration.
“Sarah has proved herself to be a valuable addition to our leadership team and the we are proud to bring her on board in an official capacity,” said Khurram Shah, owner of the Diamonds.
Granato said the position is a dream come true. “I hope someday to manage a professional team myself or work as an agent for players. Right now, I hope to help bring a Pacific Association championship to Pittsburg.”
Granato plans to apply to the University of San Francisco for a masters in Sports Management.
The Pittsburg Diamonds are an independent minor league baseball team that is currently in second place in the Pacific Association.
