Hot bats lead Diamonds to win

Vinny Guglietti
Vinny Guglietti continues to scorch league pitching, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI last night leading the Pittsburg Diamonds to a 12-9 victory over Vallejo Admirals. The first basemen leads all Pacific Association hitters with a .427 batting average, 32 hits and 28 RBI in 19 games.

Wes Wallace and Chad Highberger each homered in the fourth inning for Pittsburg (10-9) who led 10-3 at the end of five. Wallace went 2-for-4 on the night improving his average to .342 and is now fourth in the league in hits with 25.

Yiecok Calderon extended his hitting streak to three games going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. The outfielder has eight hits in the last three games and is now hitting .311 for the season.
Angel Lara (2-1) made his first start of the season pitching five+ innings and striking out seven. Things went well for the reliever early giving up just three runs through five innings. A grand slam by Tillman Pugh in the top of the sixth cut the Pittsburg lead to 10-7 before Dylan Hecht came on in relief to retire the Admirals.

Jose Canseco started off the evening with a home run derby before the game, won by Caleb Bryson. Canseco started the game as the DH going 0-for-2 before being replaced. He will not play in the series finale today due to an injury, but will be appearing at the game and signing autographs.

First pitch today at Winter Chevrolet Stadium is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
