Brilliant Weiland debut, two monster innings give Diamonds win

Hours after being added to the roster, Sam Weiland pitched beautifully to shut down San Rafael as his teammates put together two monster innings and the Diamonds dominated the Pacifics 13-3.

Weiland (1-0) gave up two runs and struck out ten in six innings to earn a victory in his first start for Pittsburg. Nick DeBarr (0-2) took the loss.

The Diamonds used five hits, four walks and an error on Pacifics’ third baseman Jake Taylor to score seven runs in the first inning. In the fourth inning four hits, a walk, a hit batsman and another error gave Pittsburg five runs.

Game two in the four-game weekend series will be Saturday at 5 p.m. at Albert Field in San Rafael.
